Where do we move next?

It’s been nine long years that I’ve been working with Six Degrees BCW, that’s a whopping 2400 working days! While I’ve had many memorable moments at work, the best ones were when every year we were asked to move around within the office at our new desk. And with every move, I kept personalizing my desk with pictures, awards, gifts, cards etc. – people and things that have been dear to me over the years. They remind me of the good times and the relationships I built over the years that I always cherish.

Whether we are aware or not, the way our office desks look can speak volumes about our personality, including how much work we can actually get done. For me, the more personalized it is, the more motivated I am to work!

The cosy desk at Six Degrees BCW

The move usually used to happen within the first quarter of a new year and the fun was in finding the new desk with your name on it! Not just that, the excitement of discovering your co-worker sitting next to you was indeed amusing every single time. Those few hours of shifting around, setting up your desk again, chit-chatting and just wishing luck to your now ex-desk side neighbour were the little things that made the workplace cozy and enjoyable.

I loved this yearly ritual for a few reasons:

– It broke the ice with colleagues who weren’t in the same team

– It made the team members more connected

– It helped us understand different personalities and perspectives towards work and life especially when you spend so much time together

Alas, this year the pandemic kicked out this exciting ritual out the window, and forget new desks, we were left with no office to go to.

Home office space

The New Desk, The New Normal

Having to work from home most of this year, making changes to the way I worked, managing home chores and yet being disciplined at the same time sure was a roller coaster ride. As they say, humans are the most adaptable species on earth and I sure have embraced this new normal.

While we all are undoubtedly working ten times harder now, perhaps the only good side of the pandemic has been about spending quality time with the family and also exploring thyself.

Though little did I know that I would miss office, my designated space and conversing with my co-workers in real life. With technology, we are always connected, always on and even more closer than ever, YET apart. No technology can replace the human connection.

Nothing beats meeting face-to-face, talking face-to-face and

Just Being Present. In Real Life.

It’s only when you ‘disconnect’ do you feel the need to be ‘connected’ again! You end up reminiscing about the wonderful times spent with colleagues celebrating various milestones, birthdays, festivals, new business wins and working together as a team striving for excellence.

We often take things for granted. The more often we see the things around us, the more invisible they become to us. I’m definite you would agree when I say this is an innate quality us humans possess!

These nine years in the same office space have been really memorable but thanks to COVID19, it’s time to say adieu to our lovely workplace and move forward to a new office.

In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity

– Albert Einstein

Opportunity Ahead

Every crisis at the onset feels like the end of the world but if you see it closely, there is always a silver lining. We may be moving out from our existing office but I am certain the new one will be memorable too!

Though it’s tough to say goodbye to the place I’ve called my second home, I can’t wait to reunite with my co-workers once we’ve successfully fought the pandemic. Until then, here’s waiting for another new year and a brand new desk. 🙂

Stay tuned!

Although Ancita was part of the PR team, she gradually started taking interest in digital communication which I believe is an apt field for her. She effectively used her communication skills learnt in PR to deliver results in digital media which is a much needed talent in the industry. We worked together on google maps and on a project called PMOAppContest chat where Ancita ably demonstrated her creative and storytelling skills. She defined the flow of the chat and was a key campaign owner. The initiative was a huge success in India. Ancita is committed, disciplined and a diligent person and I am sure she is a great asset to her team and her organization.
